Fake-bake it Till You Make it

It's not news how damaging the sun's UV rays can be to skin. Freckles, age spots, wrinkles and even deadly forms of skin cancer can all be attributed to prolonged, unprotected sun exposure—even the federal government has hopped on board and slapped a hefty tax on tanning salon visits. As much as we're all aware the of the potential health risks that come with sunkissed skin, let's face it—many women just look better tan. So if we can't all pull off the porcelain doll/ Dita Von Teese look, but don't want to expose our selves to the dangers of tanning, what's a girl to do? The explosion of self-tanning products to come on the market in the last decade gives an exhausting amount of options: gradual tan, bronzers, shimmer, sprays, lotions, wipes—the choices are endless (even if the results are not). Even with advances in this area, there doesn't seem to be a perfect option. Many products still give streaky, uneven results, funky smells and come off oddly in the shower. However, if you want to channel your inner Mad Scientist and take a trip to your local drug store, the following concoction can give you a bronze goddess application that A) is a sinch to apply B) washes off easily C) looks great on every skin tone while offering sun protection and D) smells delicious! Give it a try!

Summer Jams

We all love to recall the Top 40 hits that made up the soundtrack of those uhh, ooh summer nights. However, if you're looking to branch out from those sticky sweet teenage dreams this year, make sure to check out the enormously talented and beautiful Andreya Triana. Her smooth, smokey vocals and influences of Jazz, Funk and Nu Soul have gotten her comparisons to fellow Brit singers Adele and Amy Winehouse—though her sound is definitely her own. Triana grew up in South End London, beginning her musically education writing her own songs in her room at a very young age.

Summer Must Haves

  1. Open-Back Tops: Rarely does a trend transcend the gap between fashion and function, which is all the more reason to nab a few of these sexy shirts. A great inspiration piece to motivate you to tone up yet another (sigh) area that sees the light of day during the summer months.
  2. Platform Wedges: Now's the time to ditch those stilettos in favor of a more feet-friendly option. Paired with a flowy dress or short-shorts, wedges give a dressier vibe to easy summer style—and a chance to show off your new pedi.
  3. Nude Makeup: Admit it—it's been over 10 years since Jennifer Lopez rocked the all-white outfit in If You Had My Love, but that J. Lo glow is just as enviable as ever. Compliment your hard-earned tan with nude lip and eye colors with just a hint of shimmer.
  4. Denim Shorts: Channel your inner Daisy Duke with this summer staple. With so many varieties of length, wash, and style available, you're sure to find an upgrade from the old DIY cut-offs you love.
