Summer Jams
We all love to recall the Top 40 hits that made up the soundtrack of those uhh, ooh summer nights. However, if you're looking to branch out from those sticky sweet teenage dreams this year, make sure to check out the enormously talented and beautiful Andreya Triana. Her smooth, smokey vocals and influences of Jazz, Funk and Nu Soul have gotten her comparisons to fellow Brit singers Adele and Amy Winehouse—though her sound is definitely her own. Triana grew up in South End London, beginning her musically education writing her own songs in her room at a very young age.
By 17, she was performing open mic nights, which hooked her up with a musician collective, Bootis. After a 2 year touring period, she was given a coveted spot in the 2006 Red Bull Music Academy, which flew her to Australia to collaborate and learn from world-renowned musicians. During this experience, she recorded a critically acclaimed session with producer Flying Lotus, “Tea Leaf Dancers”. This helped catch the attention of musician and producer Bonobo of the Ninja Tune Records label. Last year, Bonobo produced and released Triana's debut album Lost Where I Belong. Still relatively under-the-radar, she is achieving success with singles off the album, including Draw the Stars. Far Closer, A Town Called Obsolete, as well as the title track.
